If you are eligible for or enrolled in Medicare, the health plans available on DC Health Link are not intended for you. Medicare provides extensive coverage, and purchasing a plan through DC Health Link would duplicate your Medicare coverage, potentially wasting money. In addition, being eligible for Medicare means you are not eligible for the advance premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions that can help make the plans available on DC Health Link affordable.
There are plans, not sold through DC Health Link, that cover services that Medicare does not cover, or that help with costs like Medicare deductibles and coinsurance. To explore all of your options, we recommend you contact the Health Insurance Counseling Project (HICP) at (202) 994-6272. HICP is a free service that provides impartial advice on Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance decisions for District residents who are 60 and older. It is funded, in-part, by the D.C. Office on Aging. You can still enroll in a dental plan through DC Health Link even if you have Medicare.
If you are already enrolled in a health plan available through DC Health Link, but are also enrolled in Medicare and now want to terminate your plan, you can call DC Health Link at (855) 532-5465. You must tell us at least 14 days before you want your plan to end.
