I qualified for special enrollment and enrolled in a private health plan through DC Health Link that wasn’t sponsored by my employer. What do I need to do to sign up for coverage next year?

For most people, DC Health Link will automatically re-enroll you in the same health plan or a similar plan from the same health insurance company at the same metal level, with coverage beginning on January 1st. You’ll receive a notice prior to open enrollment telling you what plan you will be automatically enrolled into if you take no action. If you choose a new plan by December 15th, that new plan will go into effect on January 1st instead of the automatic re-enrollment plan.

Open enrollment ends on January 31st. After January 31st, you’ll only be able to sign up for a different plan if you qualify for another special enrollment.
