What should I do if I was found eligible for Medicaid but don't want to enroll in Medicaid?
If you were found eligible for Medicaid but do not wish to enroll, you will need to fill out the Decline Medicaid Coverage Form available here. Declining Medicaid will not change your eligibility for advance premium tax credits or cost-sharing reductions to use to purchase a private health insurance plan.
If you are eligible for Medicaid you can purchase a private health insurance plan on DC Health Link without financial assistance and still keep your Medicaid coverage. In that case, the Medicaid will cover what your private plan does not. Keep in mind that Medicaid is free, comprehensive coverage. By comparison, you would have to pay for whatever private plan you chose.
If you have had a change in circumstances that might make you no longer eligible for Medicaid (for example, getting a new job), please call DC Health Link Customer Service at 1-855-532-5465 to report the change instead of filling out a Decline Medicaid Coverage Form.
